Long Easter weekend at Leone’s. We went for a walk at dusk, and pushed past a bush full of singing crickets. Leone reminisced about the day her sister, Joan Mack, flew into Sydney from America in the 70’s, and was completely floored by the sound of these musical insects: “Her eyes went very big and she asked me looking very concerned: “What are they, is it the Aborigines??” and I laughed and laughed and said “Noooo, they’re the crickets!!!!”
