Every once in a while, we meet people who change our world. They see us in a way that we choose not to. They believe in our gifts and talents and drop little pebbles in our Mind Pond. They ask us questions which gently force us to turn our mind to a different way of being.
Back in 2012, I had a conversation with my meditation teacher, Tom, which altered my modus operandi. We were sitting on the grass in Hyde Park and he studied me carefully. Then he said:
“You choose to live a very safe existence. But the thing is, your thoughts dictate what you become. What you thought yesterday created who you are today. What you think today forms who you become tomorrow. You’re so smart you could stand up in front of the UN and change the world—but it all starts with your thoughts. It’s really up to you”.
He half-smiled. I munched on my sandwich. We parted ways.
I only see him once every couple of years, but when we catch up, it’s mutual appreciation. I’m stoked at how much he’s changed his life—from being paralytic with anxiety while raking in huge amounts of money as a stock broker, to following the beating of his inner drum, working incredibly hard and creating a successful business as a speaker, meditation teacher and film producer. No vision is too big for him.
At the same time, I think he also appreciates my willingness to learn and grow. That day, his words hit me like a sun boulder and shifted the way I chose to see the world– it really does start with us. We can change ourselves, our beliefs and everyone around us bit by bit, thought by thought. And soon, we’ll stand up, stand out and stand tall—embracing our brilliance and the unique energy we bring to everything we do.
Happy Friday, lovelies! NINE DAYS TIL CHRISTMAS!! xxx
