I had an epiphany on the weekend with the help of my best friend. We were scarfing down dumplings- as usual. And then we went to her new pad and continued ripping out epiphanies while we chomped on Anzac biscuits because, comforting.

Anyway, it’s probably a throwback to the Asian mentality, but what I realised is: I’m not very good at turning to someone and going: “Can you help me with XYZ?”

Asking for help is so foreign for me, as is receiving help. Giving help, on the other hand, comes super easy.

However, what I realised is:

  1. not asking for help is just a habit based on an embedded belief that I gotta survive on my own (I guess that’s because my parents did that as plucky Korean immigrants in the 80s)
  1. asking for help actually makes the helpee feel really great, because they feel like they’re doing a good Samaritan awesome deed for you,
  1. if someone says “no” to your request for help, it’s okay- that’s pretty normal and it’s not a reflection of them not actually wanting to help you, and
  1. when help is asked for and received, everyone’s heart opens and energy flows in a lovely way.

So, let’s share and care by not only helping others, but also be willing to be helped. It’s the happy cycle of giving and receiving!

Hurray for Wednesday! xxx
