In a lot of the spiritual stuff I read “manifesting” and “surrendering” and “allowing things to come to you” are concepts that are talked about constantly. And don’t get me wrong, I love that stuff. I totally agree that flashes of brilliance hit us when we let go of the hustle and almost throw our arms up and declare: “I’ve had enough, I’m gonna go have a frigging awesome day in the sunshine” and you make a bit of space to let the light and inspiration in.

But I’ve also realised that letting things come to you is only half the experience. It’s not like a strict rule or anything, but the hustle is a totally necessary precursor to the allowing.  Nothing really comes from just sitting back, opening your arms up and going:

“Universe, fiiller-up!!”

You gotta go through the full gamut of fear of failure, psyching yourself up for it, feeling really scared, dipping your toe in, falling short, failing a bit, failing a lot, trying again, improving, learning, hustling, being knocked back, bawling your eyes out, feeling really alone, feeling unsupported, digging deep, trying again and then—right when you very nearly feel like “I just can’t anymore”—you sit down for a minute, take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that it will come to you when the time is right.

So let’s tackle this Monday remembering the duality: the doubt that we all get hit with which very nearly stops us in our tracks, but then also remembering that we can do it. We got this 🙂
