Have you ever looked at the group that surrounds you and gone: “Like, wow. Taken together, we’re all pretty ingenious.”
Around me just at work, there’s an Indian culinary goddess who remembers every single detail of any story you’ve ever shared, a baking queen, an IT guy who can dismantle and reassemble anything together (which helps when I’m perennially dropping things in the back cavity behind the end of the sliding cabinet drawer—hot tip, don’t overfill these drawers!!), a Deutsch Photoshop gun who creates the most amazing (and hilarious graphics), a team who can read numbers and explain them so that I get it, another team who can placate the angriest and most reactive of consumers, and so much more.
In life, my dad rustled up the back patio with his BARE HANDS, tiled the bathroom floor, fixes his own car and made apple pie with a sandwich press. My mum devises games for my 9-week old niece which require no physical exertion whatsoever (they just involve placing her in safe and interesting environments with toys dangling off different heights and surfaces) while my sister can whip up dishes from a cookbook without even properly reading it “you just guess! It just feels right”, she explains. I have friends who are brilliant in healing, advertising, media, medicine, negotiating, strategising, video production, art, website designing, singing, law, languages, co-ordinating, counselling, cheering people up, dance, Zumba, deep squats (goals- totes goals, one day I’ll do a deep squat and get my quads REAL strong), cooking, sharing, story-telling, impersonating, parenting, event organising, marketing, ideas generating and just generally, inspiring.
Taken together, we’re all rebels with a real cause and so much of our own unique creativity to share. And all of it IS creative because even if you feel like “I’m just not creative”, in some way or another, it is– because it fills your heart.
We should all recognise it and nurture our creativity and gifts- because there’s no one like us in the world, and no one else who can do it like you do.
Wooooo for Wednesday!
