You know those mornings when you wake up feeling and stinking like wet dog?
That fitful, awful, restless sleep that achieves nothing and leaves you feeling wrecked, empty and emotionally jumbled- because you can’t for the life of you, figure out exactly what you were worrying about as you slept. All you know is that there was an underlying anxiety that created the sh!t night’s sleep and now you’ve gotta fight through the fog and make it through Tuesday.
I think that what many of us don’t realise is that today’s era has a default setting which is known as the “Let’s stay in medium to high level anxiety forever and always!!” setting. If you’re not “flat chat”, you’re not productive. If you’re not burning the midnight oil on both ends, you’re not tough enough. If you’re not striving to tick those awesome goals that everyone else is achieving, you’re not driven or good enough. If you’re not suffering from some kind of quandary about the shortage of time, you’re just shooting the breeze, and well, off with your head—how very dare you.
Really, if we stopped stressing about our comparative stations in life (and the speed with which we’re achieving), life is actually pretty wonderful. It’s also pretty straight forward. There’s also heaps of space in your mind to breathe and enjoy each moment as it comes—and that’s pretty nice J
