Ordinarily, Monday lunch is Grocery Shopping Day and Noelle, Mairead, Jono, Gemma, Aoife and I all troop to Coles to buy our lunch ingredients for the week. But today, it was a-drizzlin’ and we were all a-moochin’ and the Grocery Trip was a no-go.

“Will we see what we have left over from last week?” said Noelle.

“I get the feeling I have half a soup from last week” confirmed Gemma.

“Can I borrow your tinned salmon, Noellez?” I asked. All I remembered was the half empty box of mixed cherry tomatoes sitting next to the gigantically unappealing Lebanese cucumber stabbing a big hole in my food bag.

Meanwhile, Mairead surmised that she had plenty of food and all this scarce food strategising was rather uninteresting.

We mosied onto the kitchen and produced what can only be described as “An Exemplary Display of Cooking with Two Items or Less”. As Aoife had brought her lunch from home, she could only watch with amusement as we flexed our tiny cooking muscles.

From left to right in the top picture, these were our masterpieces. Top row: Mairead’s corn that she steamed in the microwave. Gemma’s pumpkin soup into which she’d had the magnificent brainwave of stirring some cranberry, seed and nut mix (“not a good idea, guys”). Aoife’s home made salad.

Bottom row: Two eggs into which I’d dropped a bunch of cherry tomatoes, ready to scramble in the microwave. Noelle’s very… ummm… tasty looking two pieces of buttered toast with scrambled eggs.

It was a somewhat forced feast, but any wrongs that we pushed through as a result of our main course being a bit strange, were all nursed better by (refer to bottom pic) Noelle’s amazing lemon tart and nut-free, dairy-free cookies that she’d baked on the weekend ♥♥
