Hanging out with the lovely Korean Mafia at the Langham for Elisha Bae- she turned 29 on Thursday, hip hip hoorah! Man, it was good to see them- save for the nice dresses and occasional well rounded vowels when a waiter asked us a question, we’re all exactly the same kids we were when we high-schooled together 11 years ago.
By late afternoon, I sipped lemonade in the sun with Mayuko- my favourite hairdresser, who I met walking along Elizabeth street. I tripped over some uneven pavement and only avoided Faceplant City by grabbing onto some guy’s shorts as I went down (both he and I were grateful he was wearing a belt that day). Then, after I apologised profusely and trotted off acting like nothing had happened, I heard someone else tripping over behind me- I turned and saw Mayuko catching herself just in time, and watched as she looked back to see what she could’ve possibly tripped over. She saw me looking and then we both started laughing because we’d both tripped like hefty dinosaurs over the same bit of concrete. She told me she was a hairdresser, I told her I needed a haircut, and the rest, as they say, is hairstory.
