Happy Hen’s Grr!!! In a matter of days, my sister is getting married.

So, to prepare her for holy matrimony, Leone, my mum, Abi, Suze, Alex, Phoebe, my sister and I sat around in cushy chairs and got our fortunes read by some expert tea leaf readers at The Mystic Afternoon Tea at the Langham.

It was my mum’s first high tea, and she was completely stoked by the whole experience, as well as completely oblivious to the relatively disproportionate price you pay for a cup of tea, the equivalent of two thirds of a crustless sandwich, some cakes and a ten minute tea leaf reading: “I’m so glad I came, how much was this?? $39 was it?” she enquired as I hid the bill and quickly paid for her. I nodded emphatically, and do what I still do as an adult– more than halving the actual cost to avoid the dreary “that’s so expensive, you need to saaave!!” lecture. “Yep mum, it was $39 (read: $99)”. She sniffed– offended by the price, and mused out loud “Geez, that’s pretty dear, ay?” I nodded emphatically again.

Meanwhile, Grr’s tea reading was lovely and positive. It’s set to be a joyful day with good weather, Leone’s flourishing garden, and lots and lots of fun. Dad’s mulling over what he’s gonna say in his little speech, Mum’s ruminating over what she’s going to wear, while everyone else is looking forward to the food filled day that will be Grr’s wedding.
