Team bonding in an all girls team = high tea at the Stanford. When our towers of goodies were set down in front of us, we went for broke, polishing off pretty finger sarnies, scones and wine with minimal regard for the afternoon tea eating rules of the prim and proper. The archetype of posh lady lunching, we definitely weren’t.

However, when we hit the halfway sugar wall, it was decided that this was wholly unsatisfactory, and that real change was required. Prince William and Kate Middleton would be our new role models: “Everyone has to sit up really, really straight and no one’s allowed to eat with their fingers. We have to pretend to be posh, ay??” I slurped some white chocolate from my thumb and plucked a breadcrumb from my hair as I proffered my newest idea. Kalo quickly straightened up, committing immediately to the role play. Then Gemma, V, Bec, Mwela, Lisa and I all then proceeded to engage in elegant eating etiquette, with our necks long and shoulders back. Of course, we gave up after five minutes when we all agreed that picking up a baby macaron with a knife and fork was beyond inefficient, but there ain’t no doubt about it, it was by all accounts, a royally amazing high tea.
